MoreFM Invercargill interviewed me before heading off to meet Nick Warburton with the 20/20 Film Crew and make my trade up to the Supra. Later that day, I met the infamous Mayor of Invercargill, Tim Shadbolt (as seen on the Worlds Fastest Indian).

The Supra was taken to the top of the Worlds Steepest Street - Baldwin Street, Dunedin before embarking on the remaining 1000km back to my home in Palmerston North.

Trade #8 - Toyota Supra

Wooohooo! The first trade for 2007 has been made! A gentleman (soon to be named) from Invercargill sent me an email and we have reached an agreement!

This is what he wrote:

"Hey Adam,
I’m Keen to trade my car for the ticket to the Richmastery coming up, it is a Black Toyota Supra 1990 2 litre twin turbo. In really good shape. With Brand new racing Bilstein shocks and good tyres. Its my baby but Its time to do something big with my life."

Well Done for making a very positive decision. The short-term pain is always worth the long-term gain.

Very soon, I will be making my way south to complete the Trade.

$2 Trade Challenge 2007

Happy New Year! I trust you had an awesome Christmas & New Year with your friends and family.

For me, 2007 is going to be an incredible year! The number 1 goal on my radar is to complete the $2 Trade Challenge!!! Yes, I am going to have the house that I set out to achieve when I was given $2 in late 2006.

To recap on what I progress I have made to date:

Trade #1 – The Torch. I took the $2 I was given an went to my local $2 Shop. I traded the $2 Coin for a Torch.

Trade #2 – The Coffee Cups. I traded the Torch with Bruce Syder for 4 Brand New Coffee Cups.

Trade #3 – The Gail Switzer Voucher. I traded the 4 Coffee Cups with Gail Switzer for a 1-hour Effective Communication Consultation.

Trade #4 – The Vodafone Cellphone. I traded the 1-Hour Consultation with Mike Barnes for a Vodafone GX-10 cellphone.

Trade #5 – The Signed High Octane DVD series. I traded the Cellphone with Haylee Benton for the complete High Octane DVD series, each disc signed by Ketzal Sterling!!

Trade #6 – The Adam Marshall Painting. I traded the signed DVD series with Adam Marshall for one of his amazing paintings.

Trade #7 – The Richmastery Property Academy Ticket. I traded the painting with Phil Jones from Richmastery for a ticket to the Richmastery Property Academy in May 2007!

This ticket is my current item and is valued at an incredible $3499!!

Throughout 2006 I had some awesome experiences with my $2 Trade Challenge. One of these experiences was my first time being live on the radio. I was invited by Mike West & Gareth of MoreFM Manawatu to have a live interview with them. Mike & Gareth are now keeping a close eye on my progress and are looking forward to our next chat when I make Trade #8!

Trade #7 has been made. The latest trade for me has been a very important one. The value my current item is $3499. Yes, that's right, three thousand four hundred and nintey nine dollars!

Dear Phil & Richmastery Franchisees,

Please consider the following opportunity.
As you are aware, I am currently in the middle of my “$2 Trade Challenge”.
I would like to trade my artwork for a ticket to the Richmastery Property Academy in May 2007.

What would I do with an Academy Ticket since I’ve already been 3 times!?

A few years ago, a gentleman who is otherwise known as Trevor Pearson sold his Horse and Diving Gear so that he could purchase his Academy ticket. I am sure that there are other individuals as committed as Trevor that would love to trade the Academy ticket for their goods and thus creating a win-win situation.

What would Richmastery do with the painting?
I would suggest
a) Auctioning Adam Marshall’s painting for charity.
b) Hang it proudly on the wall in the office.
c) Sell the painting at a gallery.

I got the following response:
When Adam Baird told me a couple of months ago that he was going to: Turn $2 into an Investment property like you, I had a laugh.

Nice idea I thought but not very practical or possible. But all credit to Adam; he did what most people never do. He took action and got some runs on the board.

Today that $2 is a painting after many trades.

There is nothing more inspiring than a young man with passion and drive who is determined to succeed despite the odds. And when I was in Palmy recently I caught a glimpse of Adams energy that is simply contagious when you’re around him. I think its this energy that makes him one of the most read bloggers on our web site.

Today Adam emailed me a link to his latest blog, read it here. In this blog Adam asks if I will trade his painting for a Ticket to the May 2007 Richmastery Property Academy! And I'm going to do that, not because I need the painting but because I want to reward Adam for reaching the mid point of his $2 to a house journey.

He has now turned a $2 coin into a $3499 Academy Ticket. The journey to this point has been hard, but I want to watch the second half and see what Adam is prepared to do to use his trade today with me to arrive at the destination of purchasing that investment property.

Success is in the sacrifice and Adam has shown anything is possible if you dare to dream.

An example of another young person whose life has been changed by Richmastery is Bridget James who crossed Corinna’s path today. Bridget has purchased 32 houses since she attended the 3 day Richmastery Property Academy in May this year. That’s a new investment property every 5 days for 6 months!

Trade #6 - Adam Marshall Painting

There we have it! Trade #6, as promised, has been made.

I have Traded the High Octane Series with Adam Marshall for a hand painted Painting.

Adam Marshall is an up and coming New Zealand artist from New Plymouth. Adam has a special gift with the paint brush as is demonstrated so well in this Painting.

How did I meet Adam Marshall the gifted artist?

I was in New Plymouth a few weeks ago checking that everything was in order at a renovation property that I have on the go there. After 8 loads to the tip, my cousin invited me to his friends house for a couple of "after-a-hard-days-work" beers. Adam Marshall was the friend in question and after about 30min we had talked about our interests in each others items. His interest in the High Octane DVDs and my interest in his amazing painting's.

A couple of txt messages, a phone call and a courier package later Trade #6 was made!

What is the Painting worth?
Looking at local galleries and cafe's that have art on display, it is certainly worth more than the $200 value of the High Octane DVDs.

The real question is, What is it worth to you?
Bearing in mind that this painting has been painted by a very talented young artist that is on his way to becoming a full-time artist! The painting has been signed and numbered by Adam.

The Media

Trade Number Six is "oh so close"...so watch this space over the next few days!

I am now in the process of using all the media I can to give my "$2 Trade Challenge" all the publicity I can get. The reason I want publicity is to give me a much larger pool of people who I can potentially trade with.

I sent an email earlier in the week that reached hundreds of New Zealanders. Many of these people have attended this event and are Entrepreneurs in their own right. I sent this email to create word-of-mouth advertising for my challenge. Now, I'm sure you want to help me, but you just "don't have any idea what to trade". What you can do to help me is send the the link to my website www.tradechallenge.co.nz to as many people as possible (internationally too).

This morning I had an interview on the radio with Mike & Gareth at MoreFM, which was fantastic! I am also talking with a couple of newspapers about writing articles on my "$2 Trade Challenge". More on that when it is a done deal :)

My latest way of promoting the "$2 Trade Challenge" is utilising the online video-blogging website YouTube. You can click here to see my YouTube video.

I will continue to update my website until I have achieved my goal of a house. I intend on making the trades at a more rapid pace than I currently am, so keep checking back for updates.

Television is my aim! I think that I will be able to secure a television interview once I have made a few more trades and kept the momentum going. Television will be the ultimate advertising for the "$2 Trade Challenge" - if you know someone working in Television, please contact me.

The Ups & Downs On Your Way To Success...

Since I haven't been able to make my 6th trade at the same speed I made my first 5 trades I thought now would be a good time to share my experience of making something happen and what comes with that.

Firstly, thank you so much to all the people who have emailed, phoned and txt me support! It is really really appreciated and motivates me to make the next trade, ring the next person or think of a new way to find the right person to trade with.

I have also meet with, spoken with and heard about people who are knocking what I am doing. The most common one is "Hasn't that already been done by that paper clip guy". My answer to that is very simple and very truthful. The answer is YES. Yes, a person by the name of Kyle McDonald made 14 trades over a 12month period from one red paper clip to a house! Well Done to him, that is a fantastic result!

Now, the lets talk about the other things we do in life to achieve success...
Do we join the rugby team and aspire to be an All Black because we strive to have the same success that Daniel Carter has?
Do we invest in property to become financially free because we aspire to the likes of Donald Trump, Bob Jones and many other successful people?
I think we do. What I am doing with the $2 Trade Challenge is no different.

Modelling a successful strategy to achieve a similar result

If you set out to achieve a result using a strategy that is not "normal" you can expect to have people knock you and support you. I am encountering both types of people and it is fair to say that I am learning a lot about myself, other people and some negotiating skills!

Trade #5 - Signed High Octane DVD Series

Excellent - I have successfully made Trade #5! I am sitting in a Property Investing seminar in New Plymouth and have just explained to the attendees what I am doing - how cool is that - I got to excite and inspire yet another great group of people!

This really is a good example of networking with anyone and everyone. A friend of mine, Haylee Benton, lives in Auckland and has a fantastic contact - Ketzal Sterling - who helped made this trade possible. Haylee really wanted the GX-10 cell phone which was my previous Trade item so she made it happen.

Ketzal Stirling is the host of the High Octance DVD series - "The world's best performance car videos". Ketzal was happy to sign a brand new complete set (6) of the series for Haylee to make the trade.

Trade #4 - Vodafone Cellphone

I am beginning to really believe that the $2 Challenge is going to take off. Having just completed my fourth trade and creating another win - win situation I am feeling great!

A friend of mine and fellow Young Property Investor - Mike Barnes gave me a call today regarding his Usana Business and we got on the topic of my $2 Challenge. Mike was very interested in what I was doing so I offered to trade my "Effective Communication with Gail Switzer" voucher with him for something he may want to be rid of. Sure enough he was keen and soon found his old Sharp GX-10 cell phone that he no longer used - however it was still in perfect working order!

Mike agreed me meet me this evening to make the trade as I am heading away to New Plymouth for the next couple of days.

Trade #3 - Gail Switzer Voucher

Who could use these fantastic coffee cups?!

I had an "Ah-Ha" moment. I knew that Gail Switzer would be intrigued by my challenge. I headed around to Gail's place but she wasn't home, so I tried to negotiate a deal with her husband Paul, but he wasn't interested - well, he did offer me a book (I don't think he understood that I was trading up, not down!).

After a short while, Gail came home - I was in! Again, I explained what I was doing and my feeling was right - she was interested - good start!

Trade #2 - Coffee Cups

Well...Trade number 2 - and the first real trade - has been made! With my torch in hand I thought "who has a whole lot of 'stuff' and will be interested in my challenge?" Bruce popped into my head! I headed up to Bruce's house and there he was, mixing some concrete in his driveway. I explained my challenge to him and 5mins later we had a deal! :)

Bruce rummaged in his wife's side of the wardrobe and found 4 brand new coffee cups that, as Bruce put it "May have been a present from our son"- haha! Fantastic, I now have 4 brand new coffee cups in their original packaging. Win - Win, Bruce has gotten rid of the cups and now he wont be in the dark at the next power cut.

I will be sure to make the next trade relatively quickly, so check here again soon to keep any eye on my success.

Trade #1 - The Torch

I have successfully made my first trade and the ball is now rolling. I headed down to my local $2 Shop with my precious $2 and had a browse. I was on the hunt for an item that was reasonable generic and would suit more than a specific group of people. After looking at all the cap guns, cops & robbers suits, budget sunglasses and so on, I spotted it! The torch! Everyone can do with a torch, so I grabbed it and headed to the counter.

I now own this torch (batteries not included) and am looking to make trade #2 on the weekend. I have just been out and about doorsknocking between 9.30 and 10.00am and there doesn't seem to be too many people at home. The students are all still asleep and the rest of the people must be at work!

I am sure this challenge is going to be a success and I look forward to reporting updates more frequently.

The $2 Challenge

My $2 Challenge was born on Wednesday 23 August when I was at a Property Investment Seminar in Palmerston North. The presenter, John Hutchinson, threw me a $2 coin and I said "I will change this $2 into $20 by tomorrow night!" When 'tomorrow night' came and I hadn't completed the challenge I set myself John challenged me to trade the $2 over and over until I had a $1000 car with a WOF & Registration by Christmas. This idea is similar to Kyle McDonald's who started with one red paper clip and 14 trades and 12 months later had a house! Find out more here.

Why would I do this?
I believe that being successful is a simple process of modeling the strategies of other successful people. In this case, I am going to model Kyle McDonald trading strategy to create success for myself.

Breakthrough!!!
As I was writing the comments above about modeling success, I just thought to myself - my goal is not big enough! So, right this very second, I have decided that I am also going to trade my original $2 for a house!! This is perfect - I am a property investor, so it only makes sense that I trade until I have a house!

I will make a post each time that I make a trade and keep you informed with my progress. Speaking of progress, I have been working away at my 90-day action plan, and I am going reasonably well. Today, I put offers on two properties (my goal is one per day) so that makes up for not putting one in yesterday :)

90 Day Action Plan

This weekend I am preparing a 90-day action plan for myself!
I have found myself a bit off track and not being as effective with my time as I should be, so for the next 90 days (as of Monday 22 August) I am setting some strict goals, timeframes, habits and rules to live by.

If anyone would like to see my checklists that I am using on a daily basis you can get them from me here. I also have 9 "10-day checklists" that will ensure I am on track for my 90-Day Mission.

What has sparked me into action?
I frequently read and make posts on the PropertyTalk forums. It was here that I read the profile of Chris Ashenden.

One of the actions that will be on my "10-day checklists" will be to post an update of how I am going - here, on my blog. I am going to prove that you can do what ever you set your mind to and in doing this I hope to inspire you to take positive action yourself, just as Chris Ashenden's story has done for me.

My 90 Day Action Plan has 6 areas inwhich I want to make positive movement forward. As Kurek Ashley says on the Life Success Club Audio programme
"You either evolve or you disolve".

Creating a 90-day action plan for myself is my way of evolving!

Who am I?

I am Adam Baird. I am a 21 year old Property Investor based in Palmerston North.
Before Property Investing I was studying for a Hospitality & Hotel Management qualification. Hospitality is an industry that reqires you to be working while your customers are not.

After attending the Richmastery Property Academy in May 2005, I was clear that I would much rather be the one enjoying the hospitalty. I am now a Property Investor, Property Researcher and Internet Entrepreneur.

In May 2005, I had never seen a Sale & Purchase agreement, never talked to a Real Estate agent, I didn't know what Due Diligence was and there were a whole lot of other things that I did not know. After attending the Richmastery Property Academy I joined the Richmastery Mentoring Programme. It is this programme that I thank for my massive gain in knowledge.

I have now negoitated many Property Deals and have a good understanding of the New Zealand property market. I, with my equtiy partner, own several rental properties. I am continually in the market, talking to agents, inverviewing valuers and networking with people who have similar goals to mine.

Every property that I consider purchasing is entered into RevIQ, which I believe is state-of-the-art software for Residential Property Investors.
